Description
“Smart, nuanced, provocative and so well written…” – Colum McCann
“Engaging and highly readable collection…” – Sarah Gilmartin, Irish Times
“An international voice that resonates with a deep empathy…” – Emer Martin
The term ferenji, from ancient Arabic and Persian, roughly means “foreigners”. These themed short stories weave through the lives of six individuals stationed in conflict or post-conflict zones, including peacekeepers, aid workers and journalists. Written by a former journalist and UN peacekeeper, and short-listed for the Irish Book Awards, Ferenji depicts life in the field with pathos, dark humour and satire. It lends a passionate civilian voice to contemporary post-conflict literature.
