In the middle of the nineteenth century thousands of Irish children, some as young as two years old, were imprisoned or transported to penal colonies. This book looks at the lives and crimes of imprisoned and institutionalised children in Ireland from 1850 to 1908 against the backdrop of the reformatory movement.
