Please join us for a reading by renowned poet Harry Clifton and Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award winner Ben Keatinge on Sunday 2nd November at 2.30pm. Ben will read poems from his Ireland Chair of Poetry pamphlet, Waiting for Goran at the Broz Café: A Balkan Sequence and Harry will read a selection of his poems with Irish, European and Latin American backgrounds. ABOUT THE POETS
Harry Clifton was born in 1952 in Dublin, and educated at University College Dublin. He has published twelve books of poetry, the most recent of which is Gone Self Storm (2023). He has held many teaching positions at universities including Bremen in Germany and Bordeaux in France, as well as University College Dublin and Trinity College Dublin. In 2008 he won the Irish Times Poetry Now Award for Secular Eden: Paris Notebooks 1994-2004, and The Winter Sleep of Captain Lemass – which was shortlisted for the same award – was the Irish Times Book of the Year for 2012. He served as the fifth Ireland Professor of Poetry in 2010–2013, and is a member of Aosdána.
Ben Keatinge was born in Dublin in 1973 and educated at the School of English, Trinity College Dublin. He won the Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award in 2022 and received a Dedalus Press Poetry Mentorship in 2021. His poems have been featured in The Irish Times, Irish Independent, Poetry Ireland Review, and in anthologies. From 2007 to 2016, he worked as a university lecturer, teaching English literature in North Macedonia while studying Macedonian and travelling extensively. He was also an International Research Fellow at the New Europe College, Bucharest in 2015. Many of his poems are inspired by the history and cultures of the Balkans.
